GATE at Lowell

Lowell has a very large number of students who have been GATE-identified.  The school offers a whole host of opportunities in and out of the classroom.

Overview

Every year Lowell strives to offer a wide range of Honors, AP, and Advanced courses.  See Lowell’s GATE Description for a complete list.  In 2008 we administered approximately 3100 AP exams.  For the same year, the College Board ranked us 3rd globally in number of tests with a passing score of 3 or better.

Courses

  1. Lowell has numerous clubs.  Some soar in their scope and goals while others are quite pedestrian.  But all provide an outlet for students to express themselves.

  2. Lowell fields a number of academic teams to represent the school in competitions.  Here kids get to exercise those knowledge and creativity muscles and strive to bring home the gold.  Academic teams include Science Bowl, Forensics, and the Sea Lion Bowl.

Extra Curricular Enrichment

Support

Lowell’s gifted students get support form a number of areas.  Lowell PTSA and Alumni organizations contribute significant sums of money toward keeping the diverse set of courses we offer and keeping the classrooms well stocked.  The state’s GATE program provides money to Lowell via SFUSD’s GATE office.  It is administered by Lowell’s GATE Coordinator to help provide enrichment materials for the classroom.
